What Is a DMCA Takedown Notice?

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) provides a formal mechanism for copyright owners to request the removal of infringing content from online platforms. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c), service providers like DJYoungster are shielded from liability for user-uploaded or third-party content provided they respond promptly to valid takedown notices.

Google and its advertising products (including Google AdSense) also require publishers to comply with applicable copyright law. We honour our obligations under these policies by maintaining this clear takedown procedure.

How to Submit a DMCA Takedown Request

To file a valid DMCA takedown notice, please send an email to [email protected] with the subject line "DMCA Takedown Request" and include all of the following:

  • 1 Identification of the copyrighted work — Describe the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed (e.g., song title, album, artist name, lyrics, image).
  • 2 Identification of the infringing material — Provide the exact URL(s) on djyoungster.com where the allegedly infringing content appears.
  • 3 Your contact information — Your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  • 4 Statement of good faith — A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • 5 Statement of accuracy — A statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf.
  • 6 Electronic or physical signature — Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is sufficient as an electronic signature).
Note: Incomplete notices — those missing any of the elements above — may not be processed. We recommend reviewing the U.S. Copyright Office DMCA guidelines before submitting.

Our Response Process

Upon receipt of a valid DMCA notice, we will:

  • Acknowledge your notice within 2–3 business days
  • Review the claim and, if valid, remove or disable access to the infringing content — typically within 5–7 business days
  • Notify the uploader or content contributor of the removal and provide them a copy of your notice (personal contact details redacted)
  • Process any counter-notification submitted by the alleged infringer in accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)
  • Terminate repeat infringers' content privileges in appropriate circumstances, consistent with our internal policies

Counter-Notification

If you believe your content was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification to [email protected] with the subject line "DMCA Counter-Notification" including:

  • Your full name, address, telephone number, and email address
  • Identification of the removed content and its location before removal (the original URL)
  • A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed due to mistake or misidentification
  • Your consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located
  • Your physical or electronic signature
Warning: Filing a false or fraudulent DMCA notice or counter-notification may expose you to civil and criminal liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).

Creative Commons & Fair Use

Some content on DJYoungster may be licensed under a Creative Commons license. We respect all Creative Commons license conditions, including:

Certain uses of copyrighted material may qualify as fair use under U.S. copyright law (17 U.S.C. § 107), taking into account factors such as purpose and character of use, nature of the copyrighted work, amount used, and effect on the market. DJYoungster does not waive any fair use defences it may have.
